Audition & Placement Information

The purpose of our audition and placement procedures is to ensure we balance challenge vs. pressure. We place students in levels we believe will deliver self-achievement and success.

ACADEMIC YEAR PLACEMENT

❖  ClASSES OFFERED IN SALT LAKE CITY, PARK CITY, & UTAH COUNTY

For our Academy Year programs: Beginning Division and Elementary A placement is purely by age. Elementary B through Elementary C placement is conducted at the studio with an in-class audition. Level 1 through Level 8 is conducted at the studio with an in-class audition or through a video audition.

❖ CLASSES ONLY OFFERED IN  SALT LAKE CITY

For the Professional Training Division (PTD), we require placement to be conducted with one of the four options: In-Class Audition, Group Audition (held on May 25, 2024, or Video Audition.

The Trainee program is currently by invitation only. If you would like to be considered, we highly encourage students to attend our Summer Intensive program or submit a Video Audition.

As the PTD and Trainee programs are hosted at the Jessie Eccles Quinney Ballet Centre in downtown Salt Lake City, for questions please email academy@balletwest.org.

Video audition submissions for Student Division (Levels 5-8) and the Professional Training Division (PTD)
should be no longer than 20 minutes in length and must include the following:

At the barre (shot in profile):

  • pliés

  • tendus

  • développé

  • grande battements

  • fondus

In Center (ladies en pointe):

  • adagio

  • pirouettes

  • Traveling turns

  • waltz

  • petit allégro

  • grand allegro

Men: Tour en l’air, combination showing batterie

Additional Items to Include in submission:
